Fratelli Rossetti reopend its boutique in Milan

Last weekend Fratelli Rossetti reopend its time-honoured boutique on Via Montenapoleone 1. The location is a historical reference point for people from Milan and now it has changed its look.

The style of Fratelli Rossetti is expressed through original furnishing elements designed by French architect François Muracciole. Visitors are welcomed by an original leather floor. As you walk further into the boutique you will find yourself under a paper ceiling that creates a soft, cloud effect.

In the 200 m² boutique Fratelli Rossetti offers the new service “Su Misura Uomo” (tailor made) project. This project was conceived to satisfy even the most demanding customers in search of a product made by hand and modelled to suit the individual’s needs.

Fratelli Rossetti's Brera for women

The hand woven version of the Fratelli Rossetti tassel loafer steals the show for the SS 2012.

Tradition lives on in the new editions of past models. Such is the case with the Brera, the first version of which dates back to the Sixties. It was in these years when Renzo Rossetti introduced the mythical “tassels” for the first time. In an Italy that was still austere, unaccustomed to caring about accessories, in which essentiality was not a trend, but rather a daily life style, this original decorative element was a true revolution.

Half a century after making its first appearance in Italy , Brera is revisited in a contemporary style: for Spring Summer 2012 Fratelli Rossetti launches the hand woven version of the Brera, available for men and women.

Brera is the first model of the “ICONE” project started in 2009 which sees the re-release of historical items taken from the Fratelli Rossetti museum.

Feminine sensuality with masculine twist.

Wo-mannish is the best word to describe this new line of the collection. One of the eye-catchers is the retro "derby" shoe without laces.

Fratelli Rossetti & De Telegraaf

Last week, on behalf of Italian shoe brand Fratelli Rossetti, we invited Dutch journalist Michou Basu from De Telegraaf to visit the brand's headquarters in Parabiago, about 20 kilometers from Milan.

Not only did she write a story for last Monday's edition of the nationwide newspaper, she also explains the craftsmanship involved in shoemaking in a clip shown on De Telegraaf's website. Fratelli Rossetti is particularly known for the traditional and timeconsuming way of shoemaking which takes over 150 steps. Most of the people involved in this process have decades of experience.

Fratelli Rossetti is a family business now led by the second generation, brothers Diego, Luca and Dario Rossetti. In Belgium, Fratelli Rossetti has flagship stores in Antwerp and Brussels and in the Netherlands all Bijenkorf department stores sell the collection.

Fratelli Rossetti press presentation Milan

On the 23rd of September at Fratelli Rossetti´s Gallery in Milan,
Fratelli Rossetti presented their SS12 collection for women together with the new `Masters Hands´ exhibition.
Both the new collection and exhibition are based on the core values of Fratelli Rossetti: innovation and tradition.

The new collection
For instance, tradition can be found in the materials used in the SS12 collection. For some of the shoes materials from old collections were used in an innovative way, giving the collection a modern feeling.

Other shoes are woven with special and traditional techniques.

George Esquivel
Once again guest designer George Esquivel returned and not only did he design new styles, he also gave Fratelli Rossetti classics an innovative twist.

One of Fratelli Rossetti´s iconic shoes is the moccassin `Brera´. The Brera was developed in the sixties by Renzo Rossetti and was revolutional during the sober Italian period because of the `tassels´ they have on them.
This season, the tassels have been used as an inspiration for the `Hobo´. George Esquivel enlarged the traditional tassels and designed two-toned shoes in the softest leather. The soft heel of the `Hobo´ also makes it possible to wear it as a slipper when desired.

Another innovating technique George Esquivel applied was the washing of shoes in a washing machine. Afterwards, the shoes are let to be dried naturally which gives them their slightly used look.

Masters hands
The campaign `Masters Hands´ was launched in January 2011 and is now continued by the cooperation between the photographers Giovanni Gastel and his 23 year old nephew Guido Taroni Gastel.

Their choice to photograph hands is significant, because all of Fratelli Rossetti´s shoes are handmade. With their photos of hands the nephews emphasize the core values of Fratelli Rossetti: tradition and innovation.

Guido Taroni, Luca Rossetti, Giovanni Gastel and Giego Rossetti

The people of whom Giovanni photograped their hands, are all creative. Most of them are famous and most of them are his friends.
Guido chose to portrait the hands of people who are ´old´ friends, such as craftsmen, gardeners, people that work on land and sea. People who have always been a part of his life.

The photos, of which one of them is of famous artist Vanessa Beecroft, have been shown at the Palazzo Serbelloni.

MASTERS' HANDS

The exhibition MASTERS HANDS' marks out the new direction in which Fratelli Rossetti is heading, combining its heritage with forms of contemporary culture linked to craftsmanship and to the brand.

The photographic exhibition MASTERS' HANDS consists of a series of unpublished images snapped by the legendary photographer Ferdinando Scianna on different occasions (some of these snapped in Parabiago for Fratelli Rossetti), all linked to one another by the gestures that see hands as the protagonists.

Genesi, as seen above, is the men’s shoe taking centre stage in the Fall/Winter 2011-12 collection, the hallmarks of which include the traces left by the hands of the master craftsmen. One single cut of the leather, 8 days of work and 25m of cotton thread. The defining feature is the concealed stitching technique: the leather is moulded and sewn on the inside to conceal the stitches, which are usually seen on the surface. As a result there is only the faintest trace of the thread.

The MASTERS’ HANDS exhibition is being held in the Fratelli Rossetti Gallery in Piazza San Carlo 2, Milan. Open to the public from 18 to 22 January 2011, opening times 10.00 - 19.00.
