COLORS81 in Shanghai

As you might have read on our blog earlier, COLORS81 published the issue `Transport´ in July 2011.

In this edition COLORS81 attempts to answer questions and gives a veritable “user manual” (and survival guide) about how we can all make our own alternative, sustainable means of transport with our own hands.

Inspired by the `Transport´ edition, the magazine “about the rest of the world” now presents the exhibition TRANSPORT: homemade vehicles from around the world.

COLORS81 showed us ingenious solutions which many populations in the “rest of the world”, grappling with poverty, war or local situations, have long adopted. The exhibition shows all these different kinds of transport, varying from electric robots to solar powered cars and homemade airplanes.

The exhibition is from 6 – 18 September 2011

Opening Lana Sutra

Last Tuesday, 6th of September, Benetton hosted a triple, simultaneous event in three of their concept stores to launch “Lana Sutra”, created by Erik Ravelo.
Besides hosting three actual events, the opening was also streamed live in the digital shop-window Benetton Live Window.

Take a look at the video to see the opening for yourself.

Erik Ravelo, a Cuban artist is the creative director of Fabrica.
The First of his series “The position of the Tiger” was shown at the Italian Pavilion during the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.
Because of it´s succes, Benetton chose to display the whole series.
For one week “Lana Sutra” can be seen in Istanbul, Milan and Munich.
And after that it will travel the world to various Benetton stores, so who knows; you might be able to go and see for youself!

“Lana Sutra” is a series of 15 installations which embodies the idea of colour and a wollen thread uniting human kind. The series are a homage to love and dedicated to the desire for an equal and sharing world.

Inspiration for the series was Ravelo´s take on the Kama (= pleasure) Sutra (= a thread which unites). All installations consist of two bodies embracing and covered in woollen threads, uniting them.
The colours of the threads are the same as the colours in United Colors of Benetton Fall-winter collection, which is in stores now.

Next to the the 15 installations “Lana Sutra” has it´s own soundtrack. This was specially composed by Francesco Novara, a musician also working at Fabrica.
Listen (and download) it right now.

“Lana Sutra” can also be seen on the Benetton Facebook and Twitter and a special edition of Colors Magazine named ´Colors Love´ will be dedicated to the differences that are overcome by love.

Fabrica at Venice Biennale

Fabrica, the communication research centre which since 1994 gives study grants to young creatives from around the world, presents the Posizione della Tigre (Position of the Tiger) installation from the Lana Sutra series by the young Cuban artist Erik Ravelo in the Italian pavilion at the 54th International Art Biennale of Venice.

Lana Sutra is a series of 15 installations intended as a celebration of love and of a desire for equality and sharing. The Posizione della Tigre is a plaster of Paris sculpture of a man and a women with different coloured threads wound around them. The contact between the two bodies, where the different colours mix and mingle, represents the pure, natural love which unites diversity and binds the whole of humankind in a single thread.

COLORS 77: The sea

What would your eyes miss if they had never seen the bright orange sun as it sinks below the horizon? How would your children feel if they had never played and tumbled along the seashore? And if you'd never tasted the tang of salt on your skin?

COLORS 77 is about the sea and its relationship with human beings. Also in this magazine they used Augmented Reality, which expands the magazine experience by ‘plunging’ the reader into a world that mixes reality with that which is virtual.

Issue 77 is now available in book stores. It's issued in three languages: English/French, English/Spanish and English/Italian. You can also visit the website to read more about COLORS.

COLORS magazine will also be available on the iPad. Even the first issue, which is sold out years ago, is now available for those of you who are the lucky owners of an iPad.
