Last week, the Nederlands Film Festival took place in Utrecht. At this festival a lot of Dutch productions premiere and the Gouden Kalveren (awards) are handed out.
Since a few years the NFF and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht have a collaboration. Fashion is one of the main focusses of the Centraal Museum and its aim is to collect the early work of authentic design talents. Jeroen van Tuyl´s work fits well within the lines of the Centraal Museum´s policy, with his emphasis on craftmanship, concept and quality.
So this year it was Jeroen van Tuyl who got to design the outfit for Frans van Gestel, one of Hollands best filmproducers. And with more than 65 titels on his name already, it is no surprise that Frans was `Guest of the year´ at the NFF.

Jeroen van Tuyl´s work for Frans van Gestel and the NFF will be added to the collection of the Centraal Museum. His inventive designs of high quality are an important addition to the fashion collection of the Centraal Museum.

Sisley opens new concept store Milan
Sisley kicked off Milan Fashion Week early, by opening their new concept store last Tuesday. The special event was attended by Alessandro Benetton, the fashion community, press and public.
The launch of the new Sisley concept store follows the new brand image and website. The new store aims to welcome customers as individuals, each with their own style and personality.
The idea is to enhance displays with a “clear way of presentation” that enables customers to appreciate the looks proposed, and to choose their colour and size quickly and easily. Every detail, each element of the presentation, is designed to convey Sisley's atmosphere of independence, where customers choose according to their own personality.
Another prominent feature is the 24-metre screen that runs across the store windows, with content generated by the blog/magazine Independentpeople.com. This one-of-a-kind installation is created by FABRICA, Benetton Group's communication research centre. With the synchronisation of several projectors, the screen can interact directly with the consumer.
At the opening of the new concept store a preview of the S/S 2012 collection was given during a fashion show. Guests also got a chance to write on the special "Independent Wall" where everyone can leave their thoughts on independence.
And these words will be used as an inspiration for a new series of Sisley T-shirts, so be sure to write something for yourself!
Concept store design: studio Arcabi, Florence.

JEROEN VanTUYL on cover Elsevier Stijl
Dutch fashion designer JEROEN VanTUYL was featured a number of times in the September edition of Elsevier Stijl ´Mannenmode´.
Not only did his designs make the cover, they were also used in a spread about the best Dutch talent. Shot in the VitraHaus in Weil am Rhein, this is a inspiring series that shouldn´t be missed.
JEROEN VanTUYL´s A/W collection 2011 is inspired on glass fragments, which have been used as a print for various designs. Strong lines and small details such as an a-symetrical zip make it an elegant collection.
The use of wool, satin and acryl have a luxurious feeling and make the items perfect for this winter.

COLORS81 in Shanghai
As you might have read on our blog earlier, COLORS81 published the issue `Transport´ in July 2011.
In this edition COLORS81 attempts to answer questions and gives a veritable “user manual” (and survival guide) about how we can all make our own alternative, sustainable means of transport with our own hands.
Inspired by the `Transport´ edition, the magazine “about the rest of the world” now presents the exhibition TRANSPORT: homemade vehicles from around the world.
COLORS81 showed us ingenious solutions which many populations in the “rest of the world”, grappling with poverty, war or local situations, have long adopted. The exhibition shows all these different kinds of transport, varying from electric robots to solar powered cars and homemade airplanes.
The exhibition is from 6 – 18 September 2011

Opening Lana Sutra
Last Tuesday, 6th of September, Benetton hosted a triple, simultaneous event in three of their concept stores to launch “Lana Sutra”, created by Erik Ravelo.
Besides hosting three actual events, the opening was also streamed live in the digital shop-window Benetton Live Window.
Take a look at the video to see the opening for yourself.
Erik Ravelo, a Cuban artist is the creative director of Fabrica.
The First of his series “The position of the Tiger” was shown at the Italian Pavilion during the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.
Because of it´s succes, Benetton chose to display the whole series.
For one week “Lana Sutra” can be seen in Istanbul, Milan and Munich.
And after that it will travel the world to various Benetton stores, so who knows; you might be able to go and see for youself!
“Lana Sutra” is a series of 15 installations which embodies the idea of colour and a wollen thread uniting human kind. The series are a homage to love and dedicated to the desire for an equal and sharing world.
Inspiration for the series was Ravelo´s take on the Kama (= pleasure) Sutra (= a thread which unites). All installations consist of two bodies embracing and covered in woollen threads, uniting them.
The colours of the threads are the same as the colours in United Colors of Benetton Fall-winter collection, which is in stores now.
Next to the the 15 installations “Lana Sutra” has it´s own soundtrack. This was specially composed by Francesco Novara, a musician also working at Fabrica.
Listen (and download) it right now.

“Lana Sutra” can also be seen on the Benetton Facebook and Twitter and a special edition of Colors Magazine named ´Colors Love´ will be dedicated to the differences that are overcome by love.
